Antibiotic therapy involves the administration of medication through a needle or catheter. It is prescribed when a patient’s condition is so severe that it cannot be treated effectively by oral medications. Typically, “antibiotic therapy” means that a drug is administered intravenously, but the term also may refer to situations where drugs are provided through other non-oral routes, such as intramuscular injections and epidural routes.
“Traditional” prescription drug therapies commonly administered via infusion include antibiotic, antifungal, antiviral, chemotherapy, hydration, pain management and parenteral nutrition.
Antibiotic therapy is also provided to patients for treating a wide assortment of often chronic and sometimes rare diseases for which “specialty” antibiotic therapy medications are effective. While some have been available for many years, others are newer drugs and biologics. Examples of chronic or rare diseases treated by antibiotic therapy medicine are: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease and hemophilia.
NTIDC’S Infusion Services have become highly respected and trusted referral destination for local and regional physicians seeking antibiotic therapy for their patients or patients seeking a more convenient or aesthetically pleasing facility. Convenient, daily, weekly or monthly antibiotic therapy services are available to accommodate our patient’s busy schedule. For those patients requiring infusion in our infusion center, we offer a quiet and comfortable setting with both bed and recliners available. Patients may chose television, internet access, movies or reading material to pass their time.
Many patients who require long-term antibiotic therapy treatments can take advantage of our home antibiotic therapy services. Patients who are referred to NTIDC are initially seen in-office by one of our physicians for therapy consultation, planning, education and training. After this, home antibiotic therapy services may be considered the appropriate form of treatment.
Given the technological advances that enabled safe and effective administration of antibiotic therapies in the home, the desire of patients to resume normal lifestyles and work activities while recovering from illness and the cost effectiveness of outpatient therapy make home infusion an excellent alternative.
NTIDC’s antibiotic therapy team consists of board certified Infectious Diseases physicians, many of whom are on D Magazine’s “Best Doctors” list, and are complimented by pharmacists, specially trained physician assistants, and nurses. Our antibiotic therapy team works under the direction of the patient’s referring physician, utilizing the most effective and efficient treatments available. The entire team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure we consistently deliver superior patient care.
