When it comes to expert care, our team of medical professionals exceeds all expectations.  Each physician is board certified in both Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. Our Physicians
Physician Assistants are valuable clinicians within the NTIDC practice. Each Physician Assistant has been highly educated and works under the direct supervision of their oversight physician. These clinicians provide a full array of medical services to our patients and maintain their own patient base.

The physicians and staff of NTIDC conduct multiple clinical trials for the treatment and study of HIV-infected individuals. Currently, the Research Department is participating in Phases I, II, III & IV trials and is one of the most respected and sought-after clinical trial sites.

Sue E. Baum, MD, FACP

Dr. Baum joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in 2009 after nine years of infectious diseases practice in both the military and private practice in the Dallas area.  Dr. Baum will be one of NTIDC’s Plano based physicians, helping lead our practices growth in the North Texas Area.  Dr. Baum completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.  She completed medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC and her Internal Medicine Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Fort Lewis, Washington.

Christopher J. Bettacchi, MD

Dr. Christopher J. Bettacchi joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in the fall of 2010 after completing his Infectious Diseases fellowship at the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Bettacchi served as an Assistant Professor at the UAB Hospitalist Program. Dr. Bettacchi completed his medical school training at St. George’s University in New York and his Internal Medicine Residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Bettacchi continues to impact the research community by offering projects on Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control.

 

Clinton C. Haley, MD, MPH

Dr. Haley joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in 2009 after completing his Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  Dr. Haley also holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from Harvard University.  Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Haley served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Portland, Oregon.  Dr. Haley completed his medical school training at Texas A&M University College of Medicine and his Internal Medicine Residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Mezgebe Berhe, MD, MPH

Dr. Berhe joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in August 2005 after completing his Infectious Disease fellowship training at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and his Internal Medicine residency at St Barnabas Hospital affiliated with Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Berhe also holds a Masters of Public Health Degree from VCU in Epidemiology. Dr. Berhe has extensive training in both tropical medicine and transplant infections.

Erin Duhaime, PA-C

Erin Duhaime joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in January 2009. Erin completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, New York. Erin previously served as NTIDC's HIV/AIDS Clinical Trials Coordinator and HIV/AIDS Research Assistant. Erin is an active member in the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).

Cristie Columbus, MD

Dr. Columbus joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in 1993. Dr. Columbus is board certified in both infectious diseases and internal medicine. She completed her training at Baylor University Medical Center. Currently Dr. Columbus devotes her time to outpatient infusion therapy and medical education at BUMC. Dr. Columbus has been listed among the best infectious diseases physicians in Dallas by D Magazine.

Laura Jill Jones, PA-C

Jill Jones, PA-C, joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in August 2006 bringing an abundant knowledge of HIV/AIDS care and treatment. With over 20 years as a Certified Physician Assistant, Jill has spent the last 14 years in the care and treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS. Prior to her work with NTIDC, Jill provided care for patients at Parkland Health and Hospital System where she was recognized as the 2004 PA of the year. She has authored several medical publications and has a special interest in co-infections with HIV and Hepatitis C. Because of her extensive experience with HIV/AIDS, she serves on the HIV advisory board of several pharmaceutical companies. 

Louis Sloan, MD

Dr. Sloan is the owner of North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants and has worked at Baylor University Medical Center since 1994. Dr. Sloan is board certified in both Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. He completed both his fellowship and his residency training at Baylor and has a special interest in transplant medicine, post-operative infections and HIV/AIDS research. Additionally, Dr. Sloan serves on the teaching faculty for BUMC and sits on multiple medication advisory boards. Dr. Sloan began NTIDC's clinical research for HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in 1994. Dr. Sloan has consistently been named Best Doctor by D Magazine for infectious diseases.

Cedric W. Spak, MD, MPH

Dr. Spak joined North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants in August 2007. He completed his infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, and at the same time he completed a Masters in Epidemiology from the University of Washington's School of Public Health, which had been entirely funded by the prestigious K30 NIH award. He did additional subspecialty training in Virology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, investigating opportunistic infections in patients with compromised immune systems. He has extensive clinical experience in caring for patients with infectious complications after solid organ transplantation and bone marrow transplantation. Before fellowship, Dr. Spak had been a staff physician at Baylor University Medical Center and had been recognized for teaching excellence by the medical house staff. He received his medical degree and completed his internal medicine residency at UT-Southwestern. Dr. Spak is board certified in both infectious diseases and internal medicine, and he is fluent in Spanish, Polish and German. Dr. Spak is a member of the American Society of Transplantation and the Society of Transplant Infectious Diseases, as well as the Infectious Diseases Society of America. 

William L. Sutker, MD

Dr. Sutker is one of the original founders of North Texas Infectious Diseases Consultants. He, along with the entire NTIDC physician practice, is board certified in infectious diseases and internal medicine, having completed his training at Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Sutker devotes his time to serving Baylor as the Director of Medical Education and Chief of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Sutker is consistently named among the best infectious diseases physicians by D Magazine.

Bryan King, LVN, CCRC

Bryan King has been the Manager/Director of our Research Department since 2001. He graduated from nursing school in 1989. He has been working with HIV since 1989 and has been doing HIV clinical research since 2000. Bryan has helped to expand the Research Department to a multi-phase, respected site. He has established excellent ongoing relationships with sponsoring Pharmaceutical companies, giving patients access to new treatments for HIV. He is a member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and certified as a Clinical Research Coordinator.
